UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Friars lost to Nebraska 67-58 on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off, undone by cold shooting and 18 turnovers.

The Friars shot 31 percent from the field and 18 percent from 3-point range. They launched 38 of their 62 shots from 3-point range and made only seven. Nebraska mixed in a matchup zone, and the Friars never found an easy rhythm against it.

Pryce Sandfort paced everyone with 25 points and went 9 for 14 from the floor. He nudged Nebraska out of a 19-19 deadlock with a pair of foul shots and a triple, and the Huskers later turned an 11-0 burst into a 30-19 cushion. Providence scored the final six points before intermission and went to the locker room down 30-25.

The Cornhuskers then outscored them 22-9 over the next 11 minutes and stretched the margin to 63-47 on a Sandfort foul shot with 2:25 to play.

Leonardo Marangon led Providence with 12 points, and Vanterpool added 11 points and six rebounds. Boden Kapke scored 13 for Nebraska, with Braden Frager adding 12 and Cale Jacobsen 11. The Cornhuskers improved to 2-0. Providence fell to 1-1 and is 5-7 all-time at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Providence forced 15 turnovers and held a 33-31 rebounding edge. Nebraska shot 45 percent from the field but made just 5 of 24 from long range. The Huskers have now won 24 straight regular-season nonconference games, a school record dating to Nov. 22, 2024.
