Providence, Rhode Island – The Women & Infants Hospital 2025 Gala, held on May 2, raised over $410,000 to support the hospital’s Annual Fund, with proceeds directed towards enhancing women’s healthcare services in the community. The gala attracted hundreds of community leaders, patients, donors, and dedicated hospital staff, gathering to celebrate recent advancements, including the completion of the new Brown University Labor and Delivery Center.

This noteworthy event highlighted the collaborative efforts contributing to the hospital’s ongoing mission. Shannon Sullivan, the president and COO of Women & Infants Hospital, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the community. Sullivan emphasized the critical contributions made by sponsors, dedicated staff, volunteers, and the event committee, which played significant roles in the gala’s success.

The Cynthia B. Patterson Award

During the gala, Judith B. Remondi received the prestigious Cynthia B. Patterson Award for her remarkable volunteer service and leadership in the $35 million capital campaign that funded the new Labor and Delivery Center. This recognition celebrates her unwavering commitment to women’s healthcare initiatives within the community.

Community Support and Contributions

Major contributors to the evening included Judith and Jack Remondi, Atlantic Management, Bristol County Savings Bank, and various other organizations. Their generous support significantly bolstered the event, ensuring that more resources could be funneled towards essential healthcare services at Women & Infants Hospital.

The New Labor and Delivery Center

The Brown University Labor and Delivery Center, a state-of-the-art facility spanning 18,000 square feet, opened its doors in March 2023. This new center has replaced a nearly 40-year-old labor and delivery unit, offering modern amenities that enhance the birthing experience. The facility features 20 patient beds, spacious individual rooms measuring 440 square feet, and each unit is designed with its own bathroom and abundant natural light.

Additionally, the new center incorporates advanced technology including birthing tubs and Panda Warmers for newborns, enriching the care parents and infants receive during this critical time. Approximately 81% of babies born in Rhode Island are delivered at Women & Infants Hospital, underscoring the facility’s essential role in the state’s maternal healthcare services.

Looking Forward

Michael Wagner, the CEO of Care New England, the parent company of Women & Infants Hospital, underscored the importance of this institution in Rhode Island’s healthcare landscape. He mentioned that the hospital aims to transition all labor and delivery patients to the newly constructed center within the week following its opening in March 2023, with full operational utilization expected to commence by March 2025.

The success of the Women & Infants Hospital 2025 Gala reinforces the community’s commitment to advancing women’s healthcare services. The funds raised will enhance the hospital’s capabilities, ensuring that future generations continue to receive high-quality, compassionate care during one of life’s most pivotal moments.
