Rhode Island Police Arrest Multiple Suspects Linked to Gang-Related Shootings and Weapons Violations

Rhode Island law enforcement has made significant progress in combating gang-related violence following a series of arrests on Thursday. These arrests stem from an extensive investigation into a series of shootings and weapons violations linked to street gangs in the cities of Providence and Pawtucket.

The coordinated efforts of multiple agencies, including Providence’s Detective Bureau, the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau, the Violent Crime Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, and Pawtucket police, led to the identification of several individuals associated with ongoing violent feuds.

One of the main subjects of the investigation, 18-year-old Depriese Dailey, was apprehended during the execution of a search warrant in Woonsocket. Police initially targeted Dailey’s location based on evidence gathered throughout the investigation. He was later found residing at a different address and was successfully detained.

During the search of Dailey’s residence, authorities confiscated numerous illegal items. These included an iPhone and various items stored in a shoebox from Dailey’s closet. Among the seized items were:

  • Firearms with obliterated serial numbers
  • A ghost gun
  • High-capacity magazines
  • Automatic weapon conversion attachments
  • Ammunition

Following his arrest, Dailey has been charged with seven felony weapons charges. He has been presented to a judge in Providence District Court, who set his bail at $70,000 with surety, reflecting concerns for community safety.

In a related operation, police also conducted a search at a residence on Carolina Avenue in Providence—a location tied to a shooting incident in May 2021 that resulted in nine injuries. The findings from this location were equally concerning, as authorities seized:

  • An iPhone
  • Spent shell casings
  • Credit cards
  • Rifle slings
  • A loaded magazine
  • An AR-15 style rifle
  • Ammunition
  • A bag containing suspected cocaine
  • Over 4,000 grams of marijuana

During this search, police encountered Dhylan Carides, who now faces 16 felony drug and weapons-related charges. Carides is currently being held without bail.

Other suspects linked to the investigation, Daniel Carides (Dhylan’s brother) and Brandon Brierly, were arraigned at Kent County District Court. Daniel Carides is facing 14 felony charges related to weapons and drugs, and has been detained without bail. Meanwhile, Brierly is facing five felony weapons charges, with bail set at $70,000 with surety.

The arrests are part of a broader initiative to address escalated gang violence and its associated criminal activities in Rhode Island, which authorities have deemed a serious threat to public safety. As the investigation continues, police have indicated that the identities of juveniles implicated remain undisclosed.

This case highlights ongoing community efforts to combat gang violence and improve public safety through collaboration among various law enforcement agencies. The successes of these operations are seen as vital steps in preventing future incidents and addressing the root causes of gang affiliation and violence in urban areas.
