News Summary

Frank Holbrook, a seasoned baseball coach from Rhode Island, has been appointed as the head coach of Brown University Baseball. With a successful coaching background—including tenures at Northeastern University and Rhode Island College—Holbrook’s experience promises to elevate the program’s competitiveness and player development. His track record features impressive winning records, individual player honors, and championships, making him a notable addition to Brown’s athletic staff.

Providence, R.I. – Frank Holbrook, a Rhode Island native, has officially been appointed as the 18th head coach of Brown University Baseball, as announced on June 18, 2025. With an extensive background in collegiate baseball coaching, Holbrook comes to Brown following a successful tenure as an assistant coach at Northeastern University, where he contributed to a record-setting season in 2025.

M. Grace Calhoun, Vice President for Athletics and Recreation at Brown, expressed optimism regarding Holbrook’s leadership abilities. His appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective and strong competitive spirit to the program.

Holbrook’s coaching career spans over a decade, experiencing success in various capacities within college baseball. Prior to his role at Northeastern, he served as the head coach at Rhode Island College from 2019 to 2023, achieving a remarkable record of 115 wins and 51 losses with one tie. His leadership at Rhode Island College culminated in being honored as the Little East Coach of the Year in 2023 after guiding the team to a 30-13 record and the first Little East regular season championship in the program’s history.

During his time at Northeastern from 2023 to 2025, Holbrook served as the hitting coach and oversaw the outfielders. Under his guidance, the Northeastern Huskies posted an impressive 49-11 overall record, including 45 regular-season wins and a staggering 27-game winning streak. The team claimed the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) regular season and tournament titles, achieving national ranking at No. 19 in the D1Baseball.com Poll and No. 22 in RPI.

Holbrook’s influence was particularly notable with outfielder Harrison Feinberg, who earned CAA Player of the Year honors in 2025, showcasing Holbrook’s ability to develop talent at a high level. Additionally, the Northeastern program set seven new offensive records during the 2024 season.

Before becoming head coach at Rhode Island College, Holbrook contributed to Wheaton College as the Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach between 2014 and 2018. His tenure there included significant achievements, such as leading the team to a NEWMAC championship and a berth in the College World Series in 2017, with the team ranking No. 12 nationally.

Holbrook’s roots in baseball date back to his own playing career; he attended Wheaton College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2013. As a pitcher, Holbrook was an exceptional player, leading the team to four NEWMAC championships and four NCAA Division III Tournaments, which included a runner-up finish at the 2012 DIII College World Series. During his college career, he broke several records, including for single-season wins and career wins, while receiving honors as a three-time First Team All-NEWMAC and Second Team All-New England player. For his achievements, he was awarded the Chad Yowell Award as Wheaton’s Male Athlete of the Year at graduation.

Holbrook’s presence in Rhode Island athletics is well established, having grown up in Middletown and showcased his talent in high school at Portsmouth Abbey School, where he was a three-sport athlete and named all-state in baseball.

As Frank Holbrook takes the helm at Brown Baseball, there is widespread excitement for the impact he will have on the program, facilitating both player development and competitive excellence. His experience and commitment to the sport indicate a promising future for Brown Baseball under his leadership.
