McCarthy, known for her dedication to nursing and her love of writing, leaves behind her devoted husband, Gerald Michael McCarthy, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

She is survived by three daughters: Mary Elizabeth McCarthy-Tiella of Henniker, NH; Eileen McCarthy of West Hartford, CT; and Kate McCarthy of West Hartford, CT, who is married to Jeremy Bond. Jane also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought her joy throughout her life. Her grandchildren include Mae Braley, Anna Akopian, Adrian Tiella, Miles McCarthy-Reynolds, Sarah McCarthy-Reynolds, Cheili Bond, and Midehlia Bond. Her great-grandchildren, Ellie Gianna Braley and Luca Jack Braley, also reside in Franklin, NH.

McCarthy is also remembered by her older sister, Marie Ziolkowsky of East Greenwich, RI, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Patrick Farrell and Elizabeth Hope Emmel Farrell, as well as siblings Thomas Farrell, Betty Tranghese, and Patricia Schissler.

Early Life and Career

Born in Providence, RI, Jane was a descendant of Irish immigrants from Counties Longford and Clare. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1958, where she served as Vice President of her class. Later, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s College in Maine, graduating in 1993.

Jane dedicated 25 years of her professional life to serving as an Infection Control Nurse at Day Kimball Hospital in Connecticut, followed by her role at South County Hospital in Rhode Island. Her commitment to healthcare extended beyond her professional sphere; she was known for her deep compassion for her patients.

Passion for Writing and Family

In addition to her healthcare career, Jane was a passionate reader and writer. She authored three books, with her last manuscript completed just a week before her passing. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Gerry, and was an avid swimmer, cherishing her time spent at the beach.

Final Days and Funeral Arrangements

The family has expressed gratitude for the support, prayers, and thoughts received during her final days, particularly thanking HopeHealth Hospice for their compassion. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 17th at 11 am at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, located at 864 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett, RI. Following the Mass, a Celebration of Life luncheon will take place at Arturo Joe’s, 140 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett.
