East Greenwich Golf Course Brawl Results in Arrests and Charges

In the peaceful town of East Greenwich, a heated day on the golf course transformed into a wild scene on September 19. Around 7:23 p.m., police were called to the East Greenwich Country Club after reports of a serious disturbance broke out between two groups of golfers.

The situation escalated quickly when a 20-year-old golfer from Rumsford, Massachusetts, identified as Cameron Chase, teed off while another group was still on the putting green. This act was not taken lightly, as many onlookers noted that it created tension and sparked a furious exchange of yelling and swearing between both parties.

Things took a dangerous turn when, during the altercation, Chase allegedly hit a 54-year-old man from Cranston with his putter. This unexpected attack resulted in injuries on the left side of the victim’s head. Following the incident, Chase made a hasty exit, sprinting into a nearby wooded area to evade immediate capture.

The injured man was promptly transported to Kent County Hospital for medical treatment, where he received care for his injuries.

Meanwhile, it didn’t take long for local authorities to catch up with Chase. Shortly after the incident, police found him walking along Division Road and proceeded to arrest him. In his defense, Chase claimed his actions were a response to being pushed during the fracas, suggesting he felt he was acting in self-defense.

As a result of the incident, Chase was charged with felony assault along with disorderly conduct. However, the drama didn’t stop there. The victim’s group was also in on the confrontation as a member of their party, identified as Joseph Folco, aged 38, faced charges of vandalism. Folco reportedly threw Chase’s golf clubs into the lake, causing damage valued at over $4,000. This included a bag and car key alongside the clubs, valued at a hefty total of $4,125.

Witnesses to the scene recounted how it was Chase’s premature tee-off that seemingly ignited the clash, leading to a serious escalation of tempers on the course. Chase ended up with his own scrapes and cuts after fleeing through bushes, which certainly added to the chaos surrounding the brawl.

The reports from the police have painted a picture of a serious altercation, resulting in multiple charges for both Chase and Folco. The outcome of this incident not only raises questions about the intensity of competition on the golf course but also serves as a reminder that tempers can flare in unexpected places. Golf, a sport traditionally marked by calmness and etiquette, was turned on its head in East Greenwich that evening, leading to consequences that will surely leave an impact on those involved.

Residents are left to ponder the finer lines of sportsmanship while those directly involved may be facing some hard truths in the aftermath of this reckless clash amidst the greens.
