Pawtucket – Multiple individuals were arrested this week amid a series of reckless driving incidents and drug-related charges. The Pawtucket Police Department has been actively addressing these issues after a combination of traffic violations and dangerous driving behaviors resulted in a number of legal actions.
Evann Herrera, a 35-year-old resident of Pawtucket, was taken into custody on Tuesday at his home on Bloomfield Street. Authorities had a warrant for his arrest due to a previous charge of reckless driving. He was apprehended shortly after 9 a.m. following a barracks investigation and warrant check. After being processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, Herrera was transported to the Sixth Division District Court for arraignment.
In a separate incident on Thursday night, 32-year-old John Demonte Alarcon of Pawtucket was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and reckless driving after he crashed his truck into a residential home. Alarcon attempted to pass another vehicle on Newport Avenue, leading to a violent collision that deployed the airbags in his truck. The vehicle subsequently hopped a curb, went through the home’s fireplace, and came to rest inside the living space, with debris crashing through the windshield. Although Alarcon sustained minor injuries, he fled the scene but will face arraignment on Friday at the 6th District Court. Fortunately, the residents of the home were present during the accident but were unharmed.
On the same day as Herrera’s arrest, William Monroy, 43, from Central Falls, was also apprehended during a traffic stop on Charles Street in Providence. Monroy was charged with possessing methamphetamine at around 11 a.m. Following his arrest, he was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and will also be arraigned at the Sixth Division District Court.
Additionally, a wrong-way driver caused a serious two-vehicle crash on Interstate 295 in Lincoln, Rhode Island, early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. when a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes collided with another vehicle near the weigh station. Both drivers were subsequently taken to an area hospital, reporting pain. The wrong-way driver, identified as Raul Hernandez from Pawtucket, faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, driving under the influence, and operating on a suspended license. He is currently receiving treatment at Rhode Island Hospital and is scheduled for arraignment in district court upon his release.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding reckless driving and substance abuse within the community, prompting law enforcement to intensify their efforts in handling such violations. Pawtucket Police will continue to monitor and respond to dangerous driving behaviors, ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
Authorities urge citizens to report any suspicious or reckless behavior to help maintain safety on the roads. The proactive approach by the Pawtucket Police Department aims to provide a safer environment for all residents and visitors in the area.
