Remembering a Beloved Matriarch: Betty Hunter Passes at 96

In the charming community of Palm City, FL, residents are mourning the loss of a beloved figure, Elizabeth Angell Hunter, affectionately known as Betty, who peacefully passed away at the age of 96. Born on August 27, 1929, in Cumberland, Rhode Island, Betty led a life filled with love, dedication, and unwavering support for her family.

A Life Well-Lived

Betty was the daughter of the late John and Ruth Angell and successfully graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1950. Her early career took her to Boston, where she made a notable impression before embarking on a brand new journey. On September 11, 1954, she married Robert (Bob) Hunter, and the couple soon relocated to Michigan for Bob to pursue his MBA at the University of Michigan School of Business. This marked the beginning of their life together, filled with memories and shared dreams.

Supermom and Community Pillar

Once settled in Glastonbury, CT, Betty embraced the role of a full-time mother to their two sons, Robert and Thomas. She was known for her soft-spoken nature and rarely raised her voice in anger, opting instead to express her love and support gently. Betty was more than just a dedicated wife and mom; she actively participated in her community through volunteering at Hartford Hospital, the Glastonbury Thrift Shop, and Child and Family Services. Her heart to give back enriched the lives of many.

Passions and Hobbies

Betty had a zest for life that shone through her many hobbies. She was a proud member of the Glastonbury Hills Country Club, where she indulged her love for golf. However, it was her passion for tennis that truly captivated her. In her later years, you could often find Betty relaxing while watching professional tennis matches and cheering on the UCONN basketball team.

Wanderlust: Adventures Near and Far

Betty and Bob shared a love for travel, embarking on numerous adventures together for both business and leisure. Their explorations included a memorable world cruise as well as a Mediterranean cruise with family, creating experiences that would last a lifetime. After Bob’s passing on June 16, 2009, Betty continued her love for travel, traversing the Northeast and Southeast to support her grandson’s college baseball games.

Family Legacy

Betty was the last of her siblings, having been predeceased by four of them: Dorothy Campbell, Edith Jackson, Edward “Bud” Angell, and Carolyn Baird. She leaves behind a proud family that includes her sons, Robert N. Hunter Jr. and wife Lani, and Thomas A. Hunter and wife Theresa. Betty was blessed with six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom loved and cherished her dearly.

A Tribute to a Beautiful Soul

In line with Betty’s humble spirit, there will be no funeral service held to honor her memory. Instead, her loved ones are encouraging donations in her name to organizations that reflect her compassionate heart, such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, Shriners Children’s Hospital, or The Jimmy Fund.

As the community of Palm City and her family prepare to say goodbye, the spirit of Elizabeth Angell Hunter will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who knew her, reminding us of what it means to live a life full of love and devotion.
