Providence, Rhode Island – Adele (Thomas) Jabour, a lifelong resident of Providence and a devoted mother and volunteer, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the age of 91. She was the widow of the late Joseph Jabour.
Adele was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Abraham) Thomas. As a child, she was educated in Providence, attending Central High School’s business program before embarking on a career at A&P supermarkets. However, her most significant contributions came through her dedication to family and community service.
Throughout her life, Adele emphasized the values of education, honesty, and hard work while raising her seven children: Mary Martha McLaughlin, Dr. Bernadette Jabour, Honorable Christine Jabour, Clare Jabour, Paul V. Jabour, and Dr. Vincent Jabour. She took immense pride in her family and fostered a nurturing environment that allowed her children to thrive.
Adele was a devout member of the Catholic Church, attending daily Mass until her mobility was limited. She actively participated in her parish community at St. Mary’s in Providence, teaching catechism to neighborhood children and serving as a Communion minister for homebound parishioners. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and commitments.
In addition to her religious service, Adele was politically active, serving as a campaign manager for her son Paul’s political campaigns. She contributed by distributing flyers and volunteering at polling stations, demonstrating her support for her family and community engagement.
Once her children completed their college education, Adele pursued her own academic interests by enrolling at Rhode Island College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in social welfare. Despite her educational accomplishments, she chose to focus on volunteer work rather than seeking paid employment. Her dedication to the community remained steadfast as she volunteered at nursing homes, senior centers, and churches, making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Adele had a passion for travel, visiting various countries and islands throughout her lifetime. She particularly enjoyed spending time by the ocean, and in her later years, she frequently visited Sachuest Beach in Middletown, R.I., to relax and enjoy nature’s beauty.
Adele is survived by her six children and their families, which include eight grandchildren: Andrew, Jonathan, Victoria, Vincent Jr., Chelsea, Joeph, Natalie-Jo, and Tara. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Ian, Caroline, Adele, Hannah, Henry, Vincent III, and Collette. Adele was preceded in death by her son Natale Jabour along with several siblings: Anthony Thomas, Budio Thomas, Susan Abood, James Thomas, Mary Salem, and Nancy V. Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Church in Providence on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Cranston, RI, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Following the Mass, burial will be private.
