Directed by resident company member Jackie Davis, this captivating production explores themes of race and gender as they relate to Black women in today’s society, reflecting on the pivotal cultural dynamics of the past.

The play is set in 1930 New York City during the height of the Harlem Renaissance and the turmoil of the Great Depression. It follows the lives of four friends who encounter a mysterious stranger from Alabama, whose arrival disrupts their established lives and relationships. The production has already gained attention, with a leading publication describing it as a “can’t miss” experience.

Director Davis, an accomplished actor, director, choreographer, and intimacy coordinator, has spoken about the work’s intense and captivating essence, comparing its allure to that of an old Hollywood film. The talented cast includes Cloteal L. Horne as Angel, Taavon Gamble as Costume Designer Guy, Meagan Dilworth as social worker Delia, Dereks Thomas as doctor Sam, and Quinn West as the Alabama migrant Leland. This diverse ensemble is set to bring Cleage’s riveting narrative to life.

A robust production team has been assembled to enhance the audience’s experience. Additionally, Neighborhood Nights will provide a 20% discount for Rhode Island residents on select Sunday performances, promoting accessibility to local audiences.

For those with sensory sensitivities, a Sensory Friendly performance will take place on June 18, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience. Moreover, all performances in the final week, from June 25 to 29, will feature Open-Captioning to accommodate diverse audience needs.

This season is made possible through support from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the Providence Tourism Council, bringing together resources to facilitate the arts within the community.
