Chelmsford, MA —

A yearlong investigation culminated in the arrest of 25-year-old Da’Sean Norbert, who has been charged for discharging a firearm at an ATM outside Sully’s Ice Cream Stand in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The incident took place during the early hours of May 3, 2024.

On that day, Chelmsford Police responded to multiple reports of loud bangs in the vicinity of Sully’s Ice Cream Stand, located at 55 Graniteville Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered eight spent shell casings scattered in the parking lot and confirmed that the ATM had incurred damage from gunfire, although the cash compartment remained unscathed.

The investigation was significantly aided by surveillance footage, which captured the shooter fleeing the scene in a gray Chevrolet Malibu. Additional ballistics evidence collected at the scene was meticulously processed by the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab and subsequently shared with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Through their combined efforts, investigators successfully linked the ballistics evidence to a particular firearm.

Authorities identified Norbert as both the registered owner of the firearm and the Chevrolet Malibu involved in the incident. Following this identification, Chelmsford police sought and obtained a warrant for his arrest on September 24, 2025. Norbert was apprehended by Nahant police shortly thereafter, around 8:15 p.m. on September 25, without any incidents reported during the arrest.

Charges Against Norbert

In connection to the shooting, Norbert faces several charges including:

  • Discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building
  • Willful and malicious destruction of property over $1,200
  • Disturbing the peace

During his arraignment at Lowell District Court, Norbert was ordered to be held on a cash bail of $1,000. Should he post bail, he has been prohibited from possessing any dangerous weapons or firearms. His next court date is set for November 7, 2024.

Collaboration Among Authorities

The collaborative efforts between various law enforcement agencies were acknowledged. The Chelmsford Police Department expressed gratitude to Nahant Police, Providence Rhode Island Police, Massachusetts State Police, and the ATF for their teamwork in resolving this case.

Background of the Incident

The incident at Sully’s Ice Cream Stand raised significant concern within the Chelmsford community. The combination of gunfire in a public area during early morning hours highlighted the potential risks associated with such acts of violence. Local authorities were determined to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents and businesses alike.
