A variety of dogs waiting for adoption at the Super Adoption Day event at WaterFire Arts Center.
On Saturday, Providence’s WaterFire Arts Center welcomed over 350 dogs at the Super Adoption Day event, organized by Always Adopt. With dogs available from 13 shelters, attendees engaged in adoption applications and learned about responsible pet ownership. This initiative not only assists in finding homes for dogs but also emphasizes community awareness around animal rescue efforts. A successful history of such events continues to foster a culture of adoption as the next event is scheduled for Fall.
Providence, R.I. – On Saturday, the WaterFire Arts Center transformed into a bustling hub for dog lovers as over 350 dogs awaited their forever homes during the Super Adoption Day event. This event, which took place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., was organized by the nonprofit group Always Adopt, founded by Louise Anderson-Nicolosi in 2013.
The Super Adoption Day brought together dogs from 13 different shelters and rescue organizations, offering attendees the chance to meet and interact with numerous pets. Potential adopters were able to complete adoption applications, participate in on-site screening processes, and learn about the dogs’ backgrounds.
Many of the dogs available for adoption had previously come from challenging situations but had received necessary veterinary care and were fully prepared for adoption. The event not only focused on finding homes for dogs but also aimed to educate the public on responsible pet ownership.
Past Super Adoption Days have proven to be effective in uniting dogs with their new families, with more than 20 similar events held since the organization’s inception. The next Super Adoption Day is already scheduled for the Fall, promising another opportunity for community members to engage with these animals in need.
To facilitate serious adopters, “Golden Ticket” early entry options were available, granting access to the event at 10 a.m. for those who submitted their adoption applications in advance. This allowed for a more streamlined process as attendees had the chance to interact with their potential new pets before the general public was allowed entry.
All attendees were required to bring specific documents, including a rabies certificate and identification, to ensure a smooth adoption process. Various local shelters and rescue organizations participated in this humane initiative, including Rhode Home Rescue, Charlestown Animal Shelter, Friends of Homeless Animals, Ruff Tales Rescue, Animal Rescue New England, Save On Soul Animal Rescue League, and Fetch Dog Rescue.
Always Adopt aims to connect adoptable pets with loving families, helping to reduce the number of pets in shelters by actively promoting adoption. The nonprofit organization hosts events that encourage potential adopters to come with open hearts, as many individuals discover unexpected connections with dogs of different breeds or sizes. Since its founding, Always Adopt has pivoted towards creating community awareness around animal rescue efforts and fostering a culture of adoption over purchase.
The success of the Super Adoption Day events illustrates the unwavering commitment of the local community to provide assistance to animals in need. With countless animals finding homes through these initiatives, the organization hopes to continue this momentum, helping to close the gap on pet overpopulation and fostering a kinder society for all creatures.
As the next Super Adoption Day approaches in the Fall, potential adopters are encouraged to stay involved, consider fostering, and share information about the joys of pet adoption with their friends and family. Each event not only serves as an opportunity to find a lost dog a home but also as a testament to the collective effort required to make a difference in the lives of these deserving animals.
