Dogs available for adoption at Sakonnet Vineyard event

News Summary

Sakonnet Vineyard is partnering with the Lighthouse Animal Shelter to host a dog adoption event where potential adopters can meet dogs in need of homes. Scheduled for June 25, attendees can enjoy wine and enter to win gift baskets. The event supports the community’s efforts in animal adoption and will be followed by more events later in the year. Additionally, the MSPCA is waiving adoption fees for older dogs during this time to encourage pet ownership.

Little Compton, R.I. – Sakonnet Vineyard is set to host a dog adoption event in collaboration with the Lighthouse Animal Shelter from New Bedford on Sunday, June 25, 2025. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and aims to connect potential adopters with dogs in need of homes.

Guests at the vineyard will have the opportunity to meet a variety of adoptable dogs and learn about the adoption process directly from shelter representatives. To make the event even more enticing, attendees can enter to win gift baskets while enjoying wine served by the glass or bottle, as well as seasonal menu items and wine tastings available throughout the event.

For those unable to attend the June 25 event, Sakonnet Vineyard has additional adoption events scheduled for August 17 and October 5, 2025. These future dates will offer continued opportunities for the community to engage with adoptable dogs and learn about the rewards of pet ownership.

In a related initiative, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell (MSPCA) will be waiving adoption fees for dogs aged one year and older from June 23 through June 29. This initiative is supported by nine participating shelters across the Bay State, including the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts. This effort is particularly aimed at encouraging families to adopt during the summer months when many shelters see an increase in intakes, as more pets are surrendered or abandoned.

While the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) is not participating in the fee waiver for this event, they have a number of dogs available for adoption as well. The RISPCA has been actively involved in the community, with their team recently volunteering with local organizations, including their own shelter located in Warwick. Their efforts on activities such as the Founder’s Day of Caring focused on raising awareness about adoptable pets, including a dog named Montana.

Montana is a notable case as he was rescued from an animal cruelty situation back in March 2023, and now he seeks a loving home. The RISPCA encourages individuals interested in adopting to visit their website, where they can find information on Montana and other dogs ready for adoption.

As the summer approaches, animal welfare organizations emphasize that it is a wonderful time to adopt, as families can help their new pets adjust to their homes with added time for bonding. The MSPCA’s Jamie Garabedian has stressed the importance of this season in finding homes for many deserving dogs.

In addition to adoption opportunities, individuals looking to support local shelters can explore volunteer opportunities or make donations through the RISPCA’s website. Helping organizations that care for these animals is crucial, especially as they face increased intake pressures during busy seasons.

For those keeping up with local news and events, downloading news and weather alert apps can offer timely updates on similar initiatives, adoptions, and opportunities to support animal welfare.

In summary, attending the dog adoption event at Sakonnet Vineyard not only allows participants to connect with potential pets but supports a community-wide effort to promote animal adoption and welfare across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
