Cranston – Domenico Saccoccio, a highly respected architect and U.S. Navy veteran, passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Saccoccio was a beloved figure in the community and is fondly remembered for his contributions to architecture and his service to the country.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Marsden) Saccoccio, and is survived by his children: Michael Saccoccio of Cranston, Lisa Heintzelman (and her late husband M. Carl Heintzelman) of North Kingstown, Mark Saccoccio (Michele) of Smithfield, and Lara D’Antuono (Anthony) of North Kingstown. He also leaves behind his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Saccoccio was a registered architect and founder of Saccoccio and Associates, based in Cranston, where he worked until his retirement. His credentials included certification to practice architecture in Rhode Island, Florida, and Massachusetts, along with being a certified member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). His expertise was recognized through various leadership positions, including serving as the Chairman of the Cranston Board of Appeals and being a member, and later Chairman, of the Rhode Island Board of Examination & Registration of Architects.
In addition to his architectural work, Saccoccio was actively involved in community service. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the New England Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NECARB) and was a member and Past President of the Cranston Rotary. His significant contributions to the community and profession earned him a posthumous induction into the Cranston Hall of Fame.
Before embarking on his architectural career, Saccoccio proudly served in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of Command Master Chief during his tenure.
Saccoccio’s passing is mourned not only by his family but by many in the Cranston community who benefited from his professional and community efforts. His funeral services are planned for Wednesday, October 21, 2025, beginning at 9 AM at the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.
Visiting hours for family and friends to pay their respects will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2025, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick, located at PO Box 8938, Warwick, RI 02888.
