Following the collision, Sherman was transported to Kent County Hospital in Warwick, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Before his sentencing, Famiglietti entered a plea of no contest to charges of driving under the influence resulting in death. In addition to his seven-year prison sentence, he received an eight-year suspended sentence with probation and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. Famiglietti will also be required to undergo alcohol counseling and treatment as part of his sentencing.
