Earl R. Brightman, a respected World War II veteran and cherished member of the community, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the age of 99. He was known for his mechanical skills and independence throughout his life and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Born in Warwick, Rhode Island, Earl Brightman was the son of the late Albert S. and Eva (Taber) Brightman. Throughout his life, he remained a proud member of the Masons and a dedicated family man. He is survived by three children: Albert J. Brightman, Phillip E. Brightman, and Shelly A. Holden, who is married to James. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Brightman, as well as two great-grandchildren, Lily and Wyatt Brightman. Earl was preceded in death by his late wife, Eleanora A. (Healey) Brightman, and siblings Albert Brightman, Alice Dunsmore, Mildred Normand, and Florence Maher.

Earl Brightman enjoyed a fruitful career, working for Mobile Oil Corporation in East Providence for 22 years before retiring in 1988. Prior to his time at Mobile Oil, he operated Chompmist Hill Service Station in North Scituate. Even after retirement, he continued to work as a mechanic for Lifespan until the remarkable age of 92. His mechanical skills earned him a reputation for being able to fix almost anything.

As a young man, Earl served as a paratrooper during World War II, experiencing the challenges and camaraderie that came with military service. He was exceptionally proud of this chapter in his life and often reflected on the bond formed with his fellow soldiers.

Outside of his professional life, Earl had a profound appreciation for nature and the outdoors. He famously built a home in New Hampshire completely by himself, using trees from his own land in a testament to his hard work and ingenuity. Earl and his family created lasting memories traveling across the country during summer vacations in a camper, visiting all U.S. states except for two. His love for adventure and the great outdoors was clear to those who knew him.

Visitation services for Earl R. Brightman will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. A service will follow at 4 p.m. at the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel in Greenville, Rhode Island. Burial will be private.
