Tom Piekut was born on December 29, 1946, in New Bedford, MA, to Alphonse and Mary (Polchlopek) Piekut. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan A. (Mercier) Cicione, stepson Erich Cicione and his wife Carolyn, as well as stepdaughter Lauren (Cicione) Perdue and her husband Brandon. Tom was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Luca, Sabine, and Anaya.
In addition, Tom’s family includes his brother, Alphonse Piekut, and his wife Dolores, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family has opted for a private burial at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery to honor Tom’s life. The obituary was posted online on October 3, 2025, and subsequently published in the Providence Journal.
Pattie Hubbard’s Legacy
Pattie Hubbard was born on October 18, 1951, to artist parents Elizabeth Ann (Bunk) and Rudolph Charles Chapski. She spent her childhood in Deer Park and Springs (East Hampton), Long Island, New York, and graduated from East Hampton High School in 1969. Pattie earned her B.A. in Studio Art at Potsdam College, where she was an active member of the Student Art Association and held a solo art exhibition.
Throughout her career, Pattie worked in various art departments, including the college bookstore at SUNY Oswego. There, she established the Hewitt Union Arts & Crafts Center and created works centered on themes of body, feminism, justice, and peace. Pattie married Michael Hubbard on October 6, 1973, after meeting him at SUNY Potsdam, and they had one child, Zachary Michael-Brian Hubbard, born in 1984.
Pattie was known for her activism against war and dedicated much of her time to community service alongside her husband. She had a wide range of interests, from music and literature to art, famously being a fan of The Beatles, Vincent Van Gogh, and Frida Kahlo. She was privately cremated and spent her final months celebrating life with family and friends.
Remembering Their Impact
The community has come together to honor both Tom and Pattie, as their lives have left a profound impact on many. The gatherings for their memorials reflect the love and respect residents have for the two individuals. A gathering for Pattie’s friends and family is scheduled for October 16, 2025, at Harbor Lights in Warwick, RI. Memorial donations in Pattie’s honor can be made to Help the Homeless, AMFAR, or a charity of choice.
