Outdoor Dining Event Delayed in Federal Hill

News Summary

The Federal Hill Commerce Association has postponed the popular Al Fresco on the Hill outdoor dining event due to rain, now set to start on June 21. The vibrant event features local restaurants offering outdoor seating and entertainment, providing a charming dining atmosphere. The event will take place every Saturday until September, with streets closed to traffic for a pedestrian-friendly experience, ensuring improved enjoyment and attendance.

Providence, Rhode Island – The much-anticipated “Al Fresco on the Hill,” an outdoor dining event in Federal Hill, has been delayed due to rain, with a new start date set for June 21, 2025. Originally scheduled to return on June 14, the cancellation was announced by the Federal Hill Commerce Association, which is eager to provide a better experience for diners by waiting for improved weather conditions.

This vibrant culinary event typically features over 30 local restaurants that expand their dining options to include outdoor seating, allowing patrons to enjoy meals in a lively atmosphere. In addition to dining, the event offers a wide range of entertainment, including live music and artistic performances, fostering a festive environment that mimics the charm of European-style street dining.

The event is set to take place every Saturday from June 21 to September 6, 2025, with dining hours scheduled from 5 p.m. until midnight. To further enhance the experience, the street along Atwells Avenue will close to vehicular traffic during the hours of the event, creating a pedestrian-friendly environment. This closure will officially begin at 3 p.m. and end at 2 a.m., enabling diners to enjoy their meals without the disturbance of traffic. However, the street will remain open to regular traffic until the closure takes effect, promoting accessibility leading up to the event.

The Federal Hill Commerce Association has noted that the decision to change the event’s launch date was influenced by colder nights experienced in previous years. This adjustment aims to maximize attendance and enjoyment for both diners and participating restaurants. In preparation for the event, restaurant permits for outdoor dining were made available starting in April. Some establishments have been able to utilize sidewalk seating, but without street closures, seating options remain limited. For instance, Trattoria Appia has been able to set up only a few tables outside under the current conditions.

In total, there are 12 Saturdays dedicated to “Al Fresco on the Hill,” which aims to create an inviting and spirited dining experience for locals and visitors alike. The event not only supports local businesses but also showcases the culinary diversity of Federal Hill.

Additionally, the Federal Hill Commerce Association is planning a belated Saint Joseph’s Feast, scheduled from June 6 to June 8, 2025. Further details regarding this celebration will be announced as the date approaches, providing more opportunities for community gatherings and cultural experiences in the area.

As organizers prepare for the upcoming outdoor dining event, they remain optimistic about the turnout and the enjoyment it will bring to the community. The holistic approach of merging food, entertainment, and pedestrian-friendly environments is central to the essence of “Al Fresco on the Hill,” aiming to create a memorable experience for all participants.
