SWANSEA, Massachusetts – J. Brian Keating, aged 89, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He is remembered as a devoted family man, proud veteran, and successful entrepreneur.
Brian was the beloved husband of the late Eileen (O’Heir) Keating and leaves behind a large family, including six children. They are Virginia Keating of Swansea, Philip Keating of Manchester by the Sea, J. Daniel Keating and his wife Barbara of Rehoboth, Sean Keating of St. Petersburg, Florida, Christopher Keating and his wife Sharon of Tiverton, and Andrew Keating and his wife Patrice of Bristol. He also proudly shared his life with 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, to the late Walter and Mary (Twomey) Keating, Brian served in the United States Army, where he developed a strong sense of duty and devotion that carried throughout his life. After completing his military service, he enjoyed a long and successful career in the lumber business before co-owning Bath Fitter in Rhode Island until his retirement.
Brian’s deep-rooted faith as a devout Catholic shaped many aspects of his life. He was known for his joyous spirit, particularly through his love for card games and tennis. For over 40 years, Brian was an active member of the Woodchuckers Golf League and was a dedicated fan of New England’s sports teams, holding season tickets to the New England Patriots for many decades. His enthusiasm for his Irish heritage was evident in his love for his culture and traditions, which he passed on to his family.
Family was of utmost importance to Brian, and he treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was especially fond of his dachshunds, who brought him joy throughout the years. Brian’s nurturing spirit and dedication to his loved ones left a lasting impact on each of them.
Brian is predeceased by several siblings, including Mary (Keating) Conley, Edward Keating, Gregory Keating, Geoffrey Keating, Paula (Keating) Murphy, and Lian (Keating) Roach. His legacy continues through his family and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
Visitation for Brian will be held on October 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, located at 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. His funeral is scheduled for October 21, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, located at 530 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Brian’s burial will be private, in keeping with his family’s wishes.
