Lawrence Poirier was the beloved husband of the late Violet (Poulin) Poirier, with whom he shared an enduring marriage of 69 years. Born in Pawtucket to the late Lawrence and Theresa (Michaud) Poirier, he spent over 65 years of his life in Cumberland, where he became a well-respected member of the community.

During his service in the United States Coast Guard, Poirier contributed to the military efforts during the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he took on a career as a professional driver, dedicating 24 years to JH Lynch Company in Cumberland. He was an active member of Teamsters Local 251, emphasizing his commitment to his profession and union involvement.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Poirier was deeply engaged in community and religious activities. He was a member of St. Aidan/St. Patrick Parish in Cumberland, where his faith played a significant role in his life. He also actively participated in the Knights of Columbus and volunteered his time with Ashton Rescue, showcasing his commitment to helping others.

Outside of his community service, Poirier had a passion for various hobbies. He enjoyed swimming and was known for his love of clambakes and international travel, reveling in experiences beyond his hometown. Yard maintenance was also a favorite pastime, reflecting his dedication to his home and surroundings.

Poirier is survived by his three children: Suzanne LaLiberte (Kenneth) of Cumberland, Monique Eaton (Kip) of Barrington, and Mark Poirier (Sandy) of Seekonk. He was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren—Kip, Kara Ann, Alyse, Klark, Phillip, Jacob, and Corinne—as well as three great-grandchildren: Callum, Olivia, and Skylar. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister, Jacqueline Mongeau of South Attleboro, and several nieces and nephews, further emphasizing the breadth of his family ties.

The community gathered to honor Poirier’s memory during a visitation held on September 6, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at J. J. Duffy Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 11:00 AM at St. Aidan/St. Patrick Parish. In a solemn conclusion to the day’s events, burial with military honors took place at Notre Dame Cemetery in Pawtucket, a tribute to his service and commitment to his country.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Lawrence Poirier’s memory to Hope Hospice in Providence, RI, ensuring that his legacy of caring for others continues in a meaningful way.

The life of Lawrence Poirier serves as a reminder of the strength of family bonds, dedicated service, and an unwavering commitment to the community. His contributions and presence will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
