Leonard was the loving husband of the late Hope Eleanor (Hohler) Maynard. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to Leonard T. Maynard, Sr. and Bertha (Kellett) Maynard. Education was important to Leonard; he graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island.
During World War II, Leonard served honorably in the United States Coast Guard, participating in operations across the Pacific and Asian Theatres. Following his military service, he took on vital roles within the Warwick community. He worked as the Superintendent and Executive Director of the Warwick Sewer Authority and also served as the City Engineer for Warwick.

In addition to his professional achievements, Leonard was a founding member of St. Clement Church in Warwick. He dedicated his time to service organizations, notably as a Past Officer of the Warwick Rotary Club. Leonard is survived by his two children, Judith Ann Berube of Mashpee, MA, and Mark L. Maynard of Warwick, as well as his grandson, Connor Berube. The family shared a deep bond, and Leonard’s legacy will continue through them.
Funeral Arrangements
A funeral service to honor Leonard’s life will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, beginning at 8:30 AM from Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home in Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM at Sts. Rose & Clement Church in Warwick, followed by interment at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Johnston.
Visitation for friends and family is scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to VNA Care New England, located at 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI 02886.
