Rhode Island – A tragic motorcycle crash in East Greenwich claimed the life of John Simeonie, a 52-year-old resident of Cranston, on Friday night. The incident happened around 11:00 p.m. on South Country Trail, involving a collision between Simeonie’s motorcycle and a car.

Emergency responders received calls reporting the crash and quickly arrived on the scene. Despite efforts to save him, Simeonie was transported to Kent Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. A preliminary investigation by the East Greenwich police indicates that alcohol was not a contributing factor to the crash.

The driver of the car involved in the accident is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation, and as of now, no criminal charges have been filed. Witnesses present at the scene reported seeing a white vehicle making an attempt to turn into a parking lot a short time before the collision. One witness described hearing a loud noise accompanied by sparks as the two vehicles collided.

In an attempt to assist at the scene, a witness identified as Dennis Rockwell provided CPR to Simeonie, but noted the severe nature of the injuries sustained during the crash. Despite medical intervention, Simeonie could not be saved.

Family and friends remembered Simeonie as a kind and generous individual, dedicated to his family. He is survived by a wife and children, who are now faced with the emotional and financial challenges following this unexpected tragedy. In light of the circumstances, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family during this difficult time.

The East Greenwich Police Department is urging anyone who may have additional information about the crash to come forward by contacting them at (401) 886-8640.

This incident underscores the dangers associated with road travel and serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices. As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning the loss of a beloved family member and friend.

Motor vehicle accidents remain a significant concern across Rhode Island and nationwide. Recent statistics indicate that motorcycle fatalities have risen in various parts of the country, often attributed to speeding, hazardous weather conditions, and impaired driving. However, in this case, early reports suggest that alcohol played no part in the crash that took the life of John Simeonie. Investigators are continuing their work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Support from the community can play a vital role in helping families navigate the aftermath of such incidents. The efforts of the East Greenwich police and local organizations demonstrate a commitment to ensuring safety and accountability on the roads.
