Naples Mourns the Loss of Beloved Community Member Robert Stewart

The vibrant city of Naples is in a state of mourning following the peaceful passing of esteemed community member Robert Stewart, affectionately known to many as Bob, Stu, or Rob. Stewart departed this world on Saturday, August 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless lives in the community.

A Life Well-Lived

Born on February 13, 1941, in Providence, Rhode Island, Stewart’s journey began in the charming city of Cranston, where he quickly became known for his gentle and powerful spirit. His high school years were marked by athletic success, particularly on the golf course, a passion that would follow him throughout his life.

In September 1959, Stewart pursued higher education at Northeastern University, where he continued to thrive in academics and athletics while being an active member of the Alpha Kappa Sigma Fraternity. His college years were filled with fond memories of fraternity sports and playing golf, establishing friendships that would last a lifetime.

Career and Community Contributions

After graduating, Stewart embarked on a successful career, contributing to major firms such as Harris Corporation and General Electric. He dedicated many years to his professional life before retiring in the early 1990s, which allowed him to focus on his true passions and community service.

Stewart’s commitment to giving back was evident through his involvement in various non-profit committees and boards. Notably, he played a significant role at The Naples Country Club, where his leadership and guidance shaped many initiatives. His support went beyond golf, benefiting a wide range of organizations focused on enhancing community welfare.

Love for Golf and the Great Outdoors

Stewart was more than just a community leader; he was an avid golf enthusiast. His love for the game inspired countless friends and family members to join him on the green. Aside from golfing, he enjoyed snow skiing, reading, boating, and traveling, filling his life with exciting experiences and treasured memories.

A New Chapter in Florida

After the untimely passing of his first wife, Sally Freihofer Stewart, due to cancer, Stewart found a new beginning when he relocated to Naples, Florida, in October 2020. It was in this sunny paradise that he met and married Catharine Repine Stewart. Their shared love of life and adventure brought joy and companionship in their later years, culminating in a move to Marco Island, Florida.

Family and Legacy

Survived by his loving wife Catharine, his daughter Jennifer Stewart Cleary, son Michael, and several grandchildren, Stewart’s family reflects the warmth and love he shared throughout his life. His legacy is not just in his family but in the many lives he touched through his commitment to community service and his unwavering passion for golf.

Celebration of Life

A private Celebration of Life event will be held on Marco Island in the near future, allowing family and friends to remember and honor the incredible life of Robert Stewart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Stewart’s honor can be made to Castle in the Clouds, a fitting tribute to a man who valued both nature and community.

As Naples comes together to celebrate the life of this remarkable individual, the tributes pour in, remembering Robert Stewart not just as a golf enthusiast but as a dedicated community servant and a cherished family man.
