A native of Providence, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Francis Leonard and Dorothea Harris. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph Mattia of North Providence and Michael Mattia of Orlando, as well as two granddaughters, Brianna and Makayla Mattia. The burial will be private.

Barbara Alice Fontaine, who passed away on October 6, 2025, was remembered for her remarkable contributions as both a scientist and an educator. Barbara was born in 1935 in Woonsocket and raised in North Smithfield before graduating from St. Clare High School and earning an AB in chemistry from Brown University in 1959. She dedicated several years as a science librarian and later an educator after obtaining her MA from Wesleyan University. Barbara also served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia and earned a law degree from Pace University, practicing law in Washington County, Rhode Island. Her ashes will be privately scattered among close family members, maintaining her lifelong commitment to family after taking on significant responsibilities following the death of her parents in 1964. Barbara is survived by three brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter Simone, 84, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2025. A lifelong resident of North Providence, Peter was born in Providence and spent 63 devoted years married to his wife, Irene A. (Psilopoulos) Simone. He cherished his education, being an alumnus of LaSalle Academy in 1959, and had a fulfilling career as an industrial engineer at Monet Jewelers. Peter served as a District 1 Councilman from 1983 to 2005 and is survived by his daughters Helene Macedo and Annmarie Levin, along with his grandson Matthew Levin. A Mass of Christian Burial is set for October 11 at St. Anthony’s Church, with a private burial to follow.

Robert “Rob” Pier Swenson, 76, passed away on September 1, 2025. He was the husband of Dr. Norma-Ann (DiLibero) Swenson and spent his formative years in North Providence. Rob, a proud member of Local 271, worked both as a heavy construction laborer and in home building. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he embraced the outdoors, frequently traveling in his RV and enjoying time at his log cabin in Maine. Rob’s funeral service was held on September 8, followed by a prayer service, and burial details are yet to be determined. In recognition of his love for animals, donations made in his memory can be directed to the Rhode Island SPCA.
