Kathy was born on January 12, 1954, in Rugby, North Dakota, to parents Jack and Delores (Bertsch) Solway. She grew up in Esmond, North Dakota, where she graduated from Esmond High School in 1972. Kathy entered into marriage with Donald “Scott” Cranston on October 7, 1972, and the couple initially resided in Grand Forks before eventually moving to Hatton.
Throughout her life, Kathy was known for her dedication to family and community. She actively worked at Prairie Village Nursing Home in Hatton. In 2020, after the passing of her husband, she relocated to Dickinson in order to be closer to her son Randy and his family. Kathy was often referred to as a jack of all trades and was known as the family problem solver.
Interests and Legacy
Kathy had many hobbies that brought her joy, including crossword puzzles, gardening, birdwatching, and visiting casinos. However, her greatest passion was her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, deeply cherishing family gatherings and moments spent with her loved ones. Kathy is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Clucas; son, Randy (Mandie) Cranston; and six cherished grandchildren: Morgan, Britton, Donovan, Boston, Beckett, and Felix.

Kathy is also survived by several siblings, including brothers Jeff (Cindy), Mark (Angie), Keith, Kelly, Scott (Steph), Rory (Lisa) Solway; and sisters Deb (Chris) Hager and Becky (Scott) Reierson, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Delores, her husband Donald “Scott,” and siblings Greg, Jack, and Jackie.
