Providence College Men’s Golf Team Gears Up for UConn Invitational
Excitement is in the air in Providence as the Providence College men’s golf team prepares to tee off at the upcoming UConn Invitational at GreatHorse in Hampden, Massachusetts. Scheduled for Sunday, September 28 through Tuesday, September 30, 2025, this tournament is set to be an exhilarating event filled with competitive spirit and sportsmanship.
A Closer Look at the Tournament
The UConn Invitational is no small affair! This three-round tournament will bring together a total of 15 schools representing various institutions, which includes recognized names like Lafayette College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Boston College, among others. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the Friars to showcase their talent and compete against some challenging opponents.
GreatHorse, where the tournament is taking place, is renowned for its gorgeous scenery and well-designed course. Originally known as Hampden Country Club, it underwent a stunning redesign by New England golf course architect Brian Silva, reopening in 2015. The course is a par-72 layout that spans an impressive 7,093 yards, making it both a beautiful venue and a formidable challenge for the competitors.
Reflecting on Recent Performances
Just last Tuesday, the Friars finished the two-day Ryan T. Lee Memorial Tournament at Wethersfield Country Club, where they battled hard to secure a tie for sixth place out of 15 teams with a score of 582 (+14). Junior Campbell Skelly emerged as a standout player for Providence, finishing tied for fifth overall with a score of 141 (-1). His strong performance is sure to serve as motivation for the team heading into the UConn Invitational.
In addition to Skelly, juniors Evan Buddenhagen and Joe Halferty, along with freshman Callan Fahey, contributed to the Friars’ success by tying for 21st place. This solid performance in the Ryan T. Lee Memorial follows their opening match at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic on September 8-9, where Providence placed eighth out of 13 teams with a total score of 918 (+54). Freshman Callan Fahey was a bright spot in that tournament, too, finishing 10th with a score of 221 (+5) in a competitive field of 80 players.
