GreatHorse, the venue for this year’s Invitational, has a rich history. Previously known as Hampden Country Club, it was acquired in January 2012, underwent a redesign by New England golf course architect Brian Silva, and reopened in 2015. The course is known for its par-72 layout that extends 7,093 yards, providing a challenging yet enjoyable experience for all participants.
This marks the seventh occurrence of the UConn Invitational, an event that has built a reputation for showcasing golfing talents from across the region. Last week, Providence College participated in the Ryan T. Lee Memorial tournament at Wethersfield Country Club, finishing in a tie for sixth place out of 15 teams with a total score of 582 (+14). Junior Campbell Skelly from Charleston, S.C. was the top performer for Providence, finishing tied for fifth overall with a score of 141 (-1).
The lineup for Providence at the UConn Invitational includes juniors Evan Buddenhagen from Gloucester, Mass., and Joe Halferty from Blue Bell, Pa., alongside freshman Callan Fahey from Wheaton, Ill., all of whom tied for 21st place in the previous tournament.
The Friars kicked off their season at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic on September 8-9, where they finished eighth among 13 teams, posting a score of 918 (+54). Callan Fahey had an impressive performance there as well, finishing in tenth place with a score of 221 (+5) among a competitive field of 80 players.
