A lively scene from the Providence Fringe Festival, showcasing diverse performances and a vibrant community atmosphere.
The 12th Annual Providence Fringe Festival, known as FRINGEPVD, is expanding its programming with more than 70 performances across various venues. Held in the Valley Arts District, the festival showcases daring performances from local and national artists while promoting community engagement. Key events include the Let’s Fringe! Opening Night Party and the Sims Ave Fest + Family Fringe. With a commitment to supporting artists and accessibility, the festival also introduces online showcases. Ticket sales and volunteer opportunities are available through the official FRINGEPVD website.
The 12th Annual Providence Fringe Festival, commonly referred to as FRINGEPVD, is set to take place from July 13 to July 26, 2025. This year’s festival will see an expansion in programming and venues, underscoring its commitment to showcasing innovative and daring performances from both local and national artists.
Presented by the Wilbury Theatre Group, which has facilitated the festival for over a decade, FRINGEPVD 2025 will feature more than 70 in-person and online performances at over ten locations throughout the Valley Arts District of Providence, Rhode Island. This marks a significant 40% increase in the number of shows available compared to previous years.
Participating venues for FRINGEPVD 2025 include familiar spots such as 50 Sims, The Steel Yard, ALCO, Farm Fresh RI, LitArts RI, Teatro ECAS, the Providence Drum Troupe Clubhouse, and the Wilbury Theatre Group itself. This extensive array of locations allows for greater accessibility and variety in performances and events.
The festival lineup features highlights such as the Let’s Fringe! Opening Night Party on July 13, which promises food, drinks, and live music, setting a celebratory tone for the upcoming performances. Additionally, the Sims Ave Fest + Family Fringe on July 26 will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, further showcasing the festival’s dedication to community engagement.
Community-focused events are a staple of FRINGEPVD, with offerings such as the Haus of Codec LGBTQQIA+ Resource Fair & Art Marketplace. These initiatives aim to foster greater audience participation and strengthen community ties through accessible performances.
The festival program traditionally features a diverse mix of theater, music, dance, and comedy. Past highlights have included a circus troupe from Vermont and local musical performances that provide entertaining parodies relevant to the Rhode Island community. This variety ensures there is something for everyone at the festival.
In a unique approach to supporting emerging artists, participants in FRINGEPVD are allowed to set their own ticket prices and retain all proceeds from their performances. This model not only empowers creatives but also encourages a flourishing arts environment in the region.
To support the festival’s initiatives, there will be a fundraising event on June 15, 2025, featuring a performance of the award-winning show “Bird Jail: A Musical Punishment”. This event is expected to generate funds that will help further enhance the festival’s offerings.
The festival is expanding its reach across state lines, with participants not only from Rhode Island but also from Massachusetts and various regions across the country. The incorporation of online performances continues from the series established during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that audiences can enjoy a broad range of artistic expressions.
Those interested in participating in the festival from a different angle can take advantage of volunteer opportunities. Positions are available for individuals looking to assist with house management and community engagement activities during the event.
Tickets for individual shows, as well as all-festival passes, can be purchased through the official FRINGEPVD website, making it easy for attendees to plan their festival experience.
The 12th Annual Providence Fringe Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of arts and community spirit, bringing people together through the power of creativity and performance.
