Providence, RI – Troy Ingram, a 27-year-old man, has been found guilty of first-degree murder and the mutilation of a human body in connection with the brutal killing of 40-year-old Mohsin Muhammad. The verdict was delivered by Providence County Superior Court Justice Maureen B. Keough following a four-day trial that concluded this week.
The murder occurred on July 20, 2019, inside Muhammad’s apartment located on Jewett Street. The police responded to the scene on July 21, after receiving a report about a suspicious death. Officers arrived to discover the victim’s body lying in a pool of blood, fully decapitated, with his right arm partially severed, indicating the violent nature of the crime.
Upon investigation, authorities found a large knife and two shovels near Muhammad’s body, which pointed towards a planned and heinous act. Ingram was questioned by police following the discovery of the body and provided a detailed confession regarding the events that took place.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Ingram initially entered Muhammad’s apartment, believing it to be unoccupied. He was confronted by Muhammad, who ordered him to leave. After exiting, Ingram returned to the apartment with a shovel, where he lured Muhammad to the front door. Once there, he brutally bludgeoned Muhammad to death, striking him repeatedly in the face and head.
Following the violent assault, Ingram decapitated and partially dismembered Muhammad’s body using a knife. After committing the heinous act, he fled the scene, leaving behind a gruesome crime scene that shocked the community.
The trial featured significant evidence, including the confession and the physical evidence found at the scene, which played a crucial role in the prosecution’s case. Justice Keough’s ruling marks the conclusion of a case that garnered widespread attention due to the brutality of the crime.
Ingram’s sentencing is scheduled for October 24, 2023. As he awaits sentencing, the case remains a tragic reminder of the violence that can erupt in seemingly ordinary circumstances.
The conviction has elicited a response from many, including Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha, who expressed gratitude for the justice served for Muhammad and his family. The impact of this case continues to resonate within the Providence community, as residents reflect on the loss of life due to senseless violence.
This brutality serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing domestic strife and its potential consequences. As the community seeks healing, the upcoming sentencing will mark another chapter in this harrowing story.
