Providence – The Providence police department is currently investigating a series of shooting incidents that occurred over the weekend, including a targeted attack on a vehicle and a dangerous police chase. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the vehicle shooting incident that took place on Daboll Street on Saturday night. Meanwhile, two individuals have been charged following a separate shooting incident and subsequent police pursuit that transpired on Thursday night.

In this latter incident, police received reports of shots fired near Shiloh Street and Hyacinth Street. Although no shooting victim was found at the scene, officers nearby heard gunfire and spotted a vehicle fleeing the area. After a brief chase, the driver and passenger were apprehended after abandoning their vehicle and trying to escape on foot. During the arrest, a firearm was recovered.

Those apprehended have been identified as 20-year-old Orlando Torres and 28-year-old Anthony Reed. Torres has been charged with possession of a firearm without a license and resisting arrest. Reed faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to possess a firearm, eluding law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit, and failing to stop after an accident that caused damage to a vehicle. Following their arraignment, Reed was granted a $5,000 surety bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27. Torres, however, was assigned a $20,000 surety bail but is being held without bail due to his involvement in another firearm-related case, also to be reviewed on June 27.

In an unrelated incident, a domestic dispute escalated into violence when Eliezer Colon, 24, shot his brother over a dispute regarding a video game. The victim, a 29-year-old male, sustained injuries but is currently reported to be in stable condition after being transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Colon has been arrested on charges of domestic felony assault.

These incidents are part of a broader crack down on gun violence in the area. Providence Police have executed multiple raids across several nearby cities as part of an ongoing investigation into rising gun-related crimes. Major David Lapatin stated that several firearms have been recovered during these operations, and multiple arrests have been made. Law enforcement has been collaborating with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in an effort to tackle the issue effectively.

Pawtucket police also conducted a related raid within the scope of a multijurisdictional criminal investigation, although the identities of those arrested during that operation have yet to be disclosed. Investigations into these shooting incidents and their connection to broader criminal activity are still active, with police promising to release further information as it becomes available.

The continuous incidents of gunfire in Providence emphasize the challenges faced by law enforcement while trying to maintain community safety amidst increasing violence. The department’s quick response in these recent cases has once again highlighted their commitment to curbing gun violence and ensuring the safety of residents in the area.
