Providence – Two juveniles were hospitalized following a shooting incident that occurred in Providence on Saturday afternoon. The shooting took place around 1:50 p.m. on Saratoga Street near Gordon Avenue, prompting police to respond to multiple reports of shots fired in the vicinity.
Upon arrival, officers found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both juveniles were quickly transported to a local hospital, where they are currently reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have since launched an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
This shooting incident, reported on July 26, adds to a series of violent events in the area. Notably, a shooting earlier in the month took place on July 9 in a parking lot at the Garden City Center. During that incident, a Massachusetts man with known gang affiliations was the target of the attack. Witnesses reported that multiple shots were fired at the intended victim in broad daylight. A masked shooter discharged five rounds at close range; however, the intended victim managed to escape unharmed by running into a nearby Verizon store. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle but were apprehended following a police pursuit. It was confirmed that the attack was not random, according to Cranston police. Although the intended victim was approached by investigators for more information, he chose not to cooperate and did not wish to pursue charges.
Investigators have been reviewing video evidence from the Garden City Center shooting, which has provided additional context to the ongoing focus on gun violence in the area. Furthermore, another significant shooting occurred on June 1 on Branch Avenue in Providence. A 22-year-old man was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds around 9:30 p.m. that night. He was found in a vehicle with front-end damage, and police learned that both he and his passenger had been in a parking lot when they heard gunfire. The passenger dialed 911 after the driver struck an object while trying to flee the area. Similarly to the recent incident, the victim from the June shooting was reported to be in stable condition after being transported to Rhode Island Hospital. An investigation into this shooting led police to block off the shopping complex, and K-9 units were deployed to search for evidence, although no arrests have been made in connection with that case thus far.
The recent spate of gun violence in Providence has raised concerns within the community and prompted local law enforcement to intensify their focus on public safety. The Providence Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the latest shooting incident or any related events to come forward to assist in their investigation.
Community leaders and residents are on high alert as these violent occurrences persist. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of safety and collaboration among citizens to help combat this troubling trend. As investigations continue, the police department remains committed to uncovering the facts and bringing those responsible to justice.
As information becomes available, updates will be provided regarding the outcomes of these investigations and any further developments related to public safety in Providence.
