The match was the concluding event of the Ocean State Cup, which Providence secured through a tiebreaker.

The match began with Bryant taking the first set 25-20. Providence initially established a commanding 7-1 lead, prompting Bryant to call a timeout to regroup. Following the break, Bryant responded with an 11-3 run, taking the lead at 12-10 which required Providence to call their first timeout. Despite Providence battling back to close the gap at 24-20, a decisive kill from Bryant sealed the set in their favor.

In the second set, the intensity continued as Bryant emerged victorious with a close 26-24 score. The two teams traded points early on, reaching a tie at 4-4. Bryant then executed a 6-1 scoring run, leading Providence to call their first timeout. Providence made a strong push, taking a 22-20 lead after an ace from Audrey Kocon, but Bryant managed to finish strong with a 3-1 run, clinching the set.

Providence rebounded in the third set, winning 25-20. The set was closely contested, tied at 11-11 before Providence went on a 3-0 run, forcing a timeout from Bryant at 14-11. With a strong performance, Providence extended their lead to 19-14, but Bryant fought back with a 4-2 run to bring it to 21-19. However, Providence held their nerve to secure the set win.

Continuing their momentum, Providence claimed the fourth set 25-20. The early exchanges remained tight, with the score tied at 7-7 before Providence surged ahead with a 7-3 run, leading to another Bryant timeout at 14-10. After Bryant’s brief comeback, Providence extended the lead to 18-15, where they maintained control to win the set.

The decisive fifth set saw Bryant emerge victorious with a 15-10 finish. After an early tie at 7-7, Providence took a timeout following an ace that granted Bryant a lead at 9-8. Bryant extended their advantage with a 3-1 run, prompting a second timeout for Providence at 12-9. Ultimately, Bryant held their lead to clinch the match.

Throughout the match, Hadley Pride led Providence’s defense with an impressive 24 digs. Notably, Sophia Adkins notched a double-double with 11 digs and a commanding 23 kills. Additionally, Audrey Kocon collected a double-double recording 19 assists and 16 digs. Freshman Kaia Easterbrook contributed significantly with a team-leading six blocks. Both Adkins and Pride earned accolades, being named to the All-Tournament Team.

In total, Providence showcased a strong performance with 58 kills, 11 blocks, seven aces, and 69 digs during the match. Despite the heart-wrenching loss against Bryant, Providence’s competitive spirit was evident as they fought back after dropping the first two sets.

Looking ahead, Providence will return to Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, to take on the University of New Haven at 6:00 PM.
