Woonsocket, Rhode Island—Dorothy E. (Guenther) Scott, a former resident of North Smithfield and Narragansett, passed away at the age of 89 on September 30, 2025. She died peacefully at The Holiday Retirement Home in Manville, Rhode Island, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to her family, passion for education, and commitment to her community.

Dorothy was the beloved widow of Irving A. Scott, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Together, they raised a family that cherishes her memory. Dorothy is survived by her three children: Mary Ann Scott of Harrison, NY; Michael Scott and his wife, Erin, of North Smithfield; and Nancy Alice Scott and her husband, Timothy Mann, of Belmont, MA. Additionally, she is survived by five grandchildren: Alice, Nolan, Elizabeth and her husband, Wesley, Emmilee, and Elaina.

The Scott family has announced that Dorothy’s funeral will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, followed by a service at Noon at Holt Funeral Home, located at 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In keeping with the family’s wishes, burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HopeHealth Hospice at 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.

Dorothy was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of Alfred E. Guenther and Alice E. (Ashworth) Guenther, both of whom predeceased her. Dorothy graduated from St. Xavier’s Academy and went on to earn a degree from Bryant College, which paved the way for her professional journey.

From 1980 until her retirement in 2001, she served as a Faculty Services Coordinator at Bryant College, where she contributed significantly to the educational community. In addition to her professional achievements, Dorothy was a dedicated member of Holy Trinity Parish, reflecting her commitment to service and community involvement.

Outside of her career, Dorothy’s passions included music, theatre, and reading. Throughout her life, she found joy in the arts and fostered a love of learning, leaving an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing her. She deeply cherished the time spent with her family and was known for her unwavering devotion to her late husband, Irving, highlighting the close-knit and loving nature of their family.

The passing of Dorothy E. (Guenther) Scott marks the loss of a kind-hearted and nurturing figure in her community. Her life’s work and dedication to her family and education will be remembered by many who were touched by her spirit and warmth.
