Carol A. Cascella
Carol A. Cascella, aged 79, passed away on September 4, 2025, just five days short of her 80th birthday. Born on September 9, 1945, in Providence, she was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Cascella was a dedicated mother and grandmother, leaving behind her son, Craig Cascella of Hollywood, FL, her daughter Rayna Bouchard and her husband Matthew of Rehoboth, MA, and her beloved grandchildren, Bella and Bryce.
Starting her career in retail, Carol later transitioned to education, serving as a teacher’s assistant at Stork’s Nest Child Academy, where her passion for working with children shone through. Known for providing unwavering support to her students and colleagues, she made a profound impact on the lives of many young learners. Beyond her professional role, Carol was an active participant in the Bonnet Shores Beach Club, enjoying summer days at the beach with family and friends. She also cherished playing cards and engaged with the community through the Narragansett Senior Center.
Carol was predeceased by her husband, Agostino A. Cascella, and longtime companion, William DiPanni. She is also remembered by her brother, Robert Clark of Bristol, as well as friends and acquaintances who valued her warm and generous spirit. A Mass of Christian Burial for Carol is scheduled for September 15, 2025, at St. Veronica Chapel in Narragansett, followed by burial at Elm Grove Cemetery in North Kingstown. Memorial contributions can be directed to the New England Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Eileen Degnan
Eileen Degnan, 92, of Narragansett, passed away on September 8, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Joseph R. Degnan, Sr., with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Providence to the late Justin and Mary (Alger) Brodie, Eileen had a rewarding teaching career, spending over 25 years as a 2nd-grade teacher at St. Augustine School in Providence. Known for her dedication to education and her loving nature, she is survived by five children: Joseph Degnan, Jr. (Jane Ann), Mary Degnan (Joseph Piro), Jane Ryan (Michael), Colleen McCarthy (John), and Michael Degnan (Marsha), along with sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Eileen was also the sister of the late Very Reverend Justin Brodie O.P. and Marie Bisson. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on September 12, 2025, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Narragansett, with burial following at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Family and friends can pay their respects during visiting hours scheduled for September 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorial donations in her memory can be made to St. Mary Star of the Sea Church.
Margaret (Peg) Rysk
Margaret “Peg” Rysk, 94, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 17, 2025. She was the devoted wife of Peter Paul Rysk for over 70 years. Born in Providence to the late Thomas and Margaret (Hesketh) Ryan, Peg was predeceased by her older brothers, Thomas and Joseph Ryan. She was an accomplished art educator, graduating with a degree from Rhode Island College and later pursuing a master’s degree at Assumption College. Across her teaching career, she inspired students through her deep love for art.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Peg enjoyed summers at the beach and was known for her beautiful gardens. She is survived by her four daughters: Sharon Rysk, Laurie Liddell, Holly Meyer (David), and Meg DeCubellis (John), along with nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Active in her community and church, Peg helped organize various events, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and service. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for February 24, 2025, at Christ the King Church in South Kingstown, with visitation held prior to the mass. The family also expresses gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Brightview Commons, Steere House, and Hope Hospice for their compassionate care.
These three remarkable women will be remembered for their contributions to education, family, and community involvement, embodying the spirit of Rhode Island.
