Thunderstorms have caused the cancellation of fireworks shows in Bristol and East Providence on July 3. Despite this, several communities, including Warwick and Narragansett, are proceeding with their celebrations. The weather is expected to improve, allowing some fireworks displays to continue. Local events have also been affected, with some rescheduled. Residents are advised to stay informed about changes to their local festivities due to weather conditions.

Providence, Rhode Island – Thunderstorms Affect Fireworks Celebrations

Thunderstorms have resulted in the cancellation of several planned fireworks shows across Rhode Island on July 3. Notably, events in Bristol and East Providence have been called off due to inclement weather.

Despite these cancellations, many communities are still proceeding with their fireworks displays. Cities such as Warwick, Narragansett, and North Kingstown have confirmed their events will take place. The weather is expected to improve, with forecasts suggesting that storms will pass, allowing the celebrations to go ahead.

Details of Scheduled Events

The following events are planned to take place on July 3:

  • East Providence: A celebration is set for Pierce Memorial Stadium, beginning at 6 p.m., offering food, beverages, and live music, though fireworks will not occur as originally planned.
  • Narragansett: Fireworks are scheduled for Town Beach at dusk. It is anticipated that the storm will have passed by that time.
  • North Kingstown: An event at Town Beach Complex is expected to start at 4:30 p.m., with fireworks launching after dark.
  • North Providence: The celebration at Governor John A. Notte Jr. Memorial Park is set to commence at 6 p.m., featuring live entertainment followed by fireworks at 9 p.m.
  • Hope: Fireworks will take place at Hope & Jackson Fire Company starting at dusk, preceded by activities beginning at 5 p.m.
  • Warwick: Fireworks are confirmed to be held at Oakland Beach from 9 to 9:30 p.m., as announced by Mayor Frank Picozzi.
  • Woonsocket: Celebrations are set to start at WWII Veterans Memorial Park at 4 p.m. with fireworks scheduled for 9 p.m., along with food trucks and live music.

Impact on Other Events

In addition to fireworks show cancellations, several other events have been impacted due to the weather. A concert and dance with Zydeco Connection planned for Warwick Town Hall has been rescheduled to February 22. Performances at Wendell Full Moon Coffeehouse and Brick House Community Resource Center have also faced delays, with new dates announced for those events.

Weather Forecast

The weather forecast for July 3 predicts a high of 81° with rain expected throughout the region. This emphasizes the probability of thunderstorms, which has resulted in the cancellations and disruptions to the holiday celebrations.

As the situation continues to evolve throughout the day, residents are encouraged to stay informed about their local events and any changes due to weather conditions. While some fireworks shows have been canceled, many communities are hopeful that storms will clear in time for their planned celebrations, allowing Rhode Islanders to enjoy the Independence Day festivities safely.
