With 19 years at RIMI, she will enhance operational processes and maintain the organization’s commitment to quality patient care. RIMI has also joined Strategic Radiology, expanding its network of independent practices while ensuring high standards in diagnostic imaging services.
Rhode Island – JoAnn Barbato has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Operations at Rhode Island Medical Imaging (RIMI), a premier provider of diagnostic imaging services in the state. This significant promotion comes after Barbato’s 19 years of dedicated service at RIMI, where she has held various roles, culminating in her most recent position as Chief Operational Officer.
In her new role, Barbato will manage daily operations at RIMI’s headquarters located in Warwick and oversee all 16 imaging facilities spread across Rhode Island. She will be instrumental in ensuring smooth operational processes while collaborating extensively with internal departments such as clinical operations, finance, human resources, information technology, and legal affairs. Furthermore, Barbato will be responsible for liaising with external partners and affiliates to facilitate contract negotiations and partnerships essential for RIMI’s sustained growth and effectiveness.
RIMI is recognized as a leader in the diagnostic imaging sector and employs 90 physicians. Recently, the practice has joined the independent practice coalition Strategic Radiology, which represents over 40 independent radiology practices with more than 1,800 physicians nationwide. This momentous step aims to bolster RIMI’s commitment to delivering top-quality patient care while maintaining their independence in a consolidating healthcare landscape.
Over its 80 years of operation, RIMI has established a robust presence in Rhode Island with 16 private diagnostic imaging facilities. The organization performs a myriad of imaging procedures and provides interpretation services for 10 hospitals in Rhode Island and one in Massachusetts. Notably, RIMI’s academic and community hospital radiology departments have received accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Joint Commission, showcasing their commitment to excellence in both outpatient and inpatient care.
To enhance its operational capabilities, RIMI is in the process of developing a peer learning program and has implemented a sophisticated quality infrastructure that focuses on continuous improvement in imaging services. The outpatient offices of RIMI have also been recognized as Centers of Excellence by the ACR, highlighting the high standards of care provided to patients.
Dr. John Pezzullo, President of RIMI, has underscored the importance of the organization’s independence, particularly in light of their alliance with Strategic Radiology. This partnership is seen as a strategic move to ensure that RIMI continues to operate effectively while delivering high-quality patient services. The recent addition of Wake Radiology in Raleigh, North Carolina, to the coalition further emphasizes the growing network of independent practices committed to high standards of patient care and operational excellence.
Barbato’s extensive experience and strong leadership skills are expected to contribute significantly to the advancement of RIMI’s operational objectives as the organization continues to adapt and thrive in the evolving field of medical imaging. As Rhode Island Medical Imaging embarks on this new chapter, patients and community members can look forward to enhanced imaging services backed by a strong commitment to quality and independent practice.
