WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – The South Florida community is grieving the loss of two individuals, David Richard Roy, aged 81, and Aidan Justice Hughes, aged 32, who both passed away recently under tragic circumstances.

David Richard Roy Remembered for His Passion and Dedication

David Richard Roy of West Palm Beach, passed away on October 1, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on March 31, 1944, in East Providence, Rhode Island, David dedicated 35 years to serving as an Administrator of Education Quality and Certification with the Department of Education of Rhode Island. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Bryant College and later pursued a Master’s Degree from Boston University.

David is survived by his husband, Tien-yang Chiao; his sister, Jean Santaniello; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Douglas Roy; along with nephews and nieces. Known for his love of family and friends, he was an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly supporting the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with loved ones.

A visitation for David will be held at the Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center on October 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A committal service will follow on October 24, 2025, at Palm Beach Memorial Funeral Home & Cemetery from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM.

Aidan Justice Hughes: A Light in the Lives of Many

Aidan Justice Hughes, formerly of North Palm Beach and currently a resident of Greensboro, NC, passed away in his sleep on October 14, 2025. A son of Chandra Bill-Rabenecker and the late Jim Hughes, Aidan was also the stepson of Rob Rabenecker. Born in West Palm Beach, Aidan was 32 at the time of his passing and remembered for his infectious smile and warm demeanor.

Aidan battled schizophrenia for 17 years but demonstrated remarkable resilience by graduating from college during this challenging period. He is cherished by his family, including his brother, Ethan Hughes, and his long-time friend, Laura Thauberger. Aidan took pride in his Texas roots and Japanese ancestry and had a passion for writing, music, cooking, and nature.

In celebration of Aidan’s life, a memorial service is scheduled for November 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Christ Fellowship Church South Campus in Palm Beach Gardens. Family members have requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Aidan’s honor to the National Alliance of Mental Illness or to organizations that support mental wellness initiatives.

Tragedy Strikes Again: Nicole Taylor Currivan Dies in Vehicle Crash

In a separate tragedy, Nicole Taylor Currivan, aged 30 from Palm Beach Gardens, died in a single-vehicle crash on October 19, 2025. The incident occurred at the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and Northlake Boulevard at approximately 7:41 PM. Currivan was driving a 2025 Kia which veered off the road, struck a concrete curb, and collided with a traffic signal pole.

She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:12 PM. Investigators suspect that impairment may have played a role in the accident, although no other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were reported. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting examinations as part of the ongoing investigation.
