North Providence, RI – The annual Unified Arts Show at North Providence High School is set to take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This event, which is free and open to the public, will showcase a diverse range of student creations, including visual art pieces and musical performances.

Attendees will enjoy light refreshments and snacks while exploring curated selections of students’ artworks, including paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and drawings from those in grades 9 through 12. As stated by the visual arts educators, the show emphasizes the significance of celebrating and recognizing the creative works developed by students throughout the school year.

Approximately 35 students from the music department are expected to participate, featuring performances from both the Concert Band and Jazz Band, with additional possibilities for vocal solos. The collaborative effort is a culmination of an innovative approach that focuses on integrating different arts disciplines, spurred by the introduction of a new Performance & Visual Arts Pathway at the school.

This year’s event is particularly notable for its increased collaboration between the visual arts and performing arts departments, allowing students to cultivate skills across various disciplines, including theater, music, dance, and prop/set design. Notably, visual art students have worked alongside the theater department, creating props such as dragon heads for the upcoming production of “She Kills Monsters,” with two of the dragon sculptures set to be displayed at the Unified Arts Show.

The new Performance & Visual Arts Pathway is designed to provide students with a broad spectrum of fine arts education, preparing them for future careers in the arts and beyond. The pathway allows 9th graders to take introductory courses in theater and singing/movement, while 10th graders engage in foundational workshops in art and theater. For 11th graders, there are options to study piano/music theory along with workshops related to costumes and props. Finally, 12th graders have advanced classes available, including honors art, technical theater, modern dance, and honors band/choir.

Students are also encouraged to choose elective courses such as guitar, percussion, watercolor, cartooning, clay, and basic drawing, which further enhance their artistic education. The goal of the Unified Arts Show and the Performance & Visual Arts Pathway is to foster creativity, collaboration, and skill development among students, showcasing their talents in a supportive environment.

For those interested in learning more about the Unified Arts Show or the Performance & Visual Arts Pathway, additional information can be obtained by contacting the Director of Pathways, Melissa Caffrey, via email.
