Winter gathering in Warwick, Rhode Island

News Summary

Several events in Warwick, Rhode Island, scheduled for February 15 have been postponed because of bad weather forecasts. The Zydeco Connection concert and a performance at the Wendell Full Moon Coffeehouse are notably affected. Organizers are adjusting to ensure safety and enjoyment, with new dates set for some events as the community looks ahead to improved weather conditions over the weekend.

Warwick, Rhode Island – Several local events scheduled for Saturday, February 15, have been postponed due to anticipated inclement weather conditions. The affected events include a concert by the Greenfield-based Zydeco Connection at Warwick Town Hall and a performance featuring John Sheldon, Paul Richmond, and Tony Vacca at the Wendell Full Moon Coffeehouse.

The Zydeco Connection concert has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 22, while the “Do It Now” performance at the Wendell Full Moon Coffeehouse will now take place in May. Additionally, the Community Circle event at the Brick House Community Resource Center in Turners Falls has been delayed until Sunday, March 9, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The Pamela Means concert planned in Leverett has also been pushed back to Friday, February 21, at 7 p.m.

The decision to postpone these events was made in light of the weather forecast, which predicts mostly cloudy conditions with temperatures lingering in the 30s on both Friday and Saturday. Local residents can expect the high temperature to reach 41 degrees and a return to mostly sunny weather on Sunday, February 16.

Inclement weather has increasingly become a factor in event planning within Warwick and surrounding areas. Historical data indicates that Rhode Island typically experiences challenging winter weather, with a 22 percent chance of a white Christmas based on observations from 1991 to 2020. Interestingly, the last recorded snowfall on Christmas Day in Rhode Island occurred in 2021, which saw two inches accumulate in Providence.

Weather patterns in the U.S. reinforce the unpredictability of winter conditions. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), only about 38 percent of the lower 48 states experience snow on Christmas Day. Conversely, data from 2023 revealed that approximately 53 percent of the continental U.S. recorded snow, marking the highest level since 2009. However, forecasts from The Weather Channel indicate that rain is expected in the days leading up to Christmas this year, making it unlikely for snow to accumulate during the holiday.

Event organizers in Warwick are keeping a close watch on weather updates to ensure the safety and enjoyment of attendees. The recent postponements serve as a reminder of the complexities involved in scheduling events during winter months, as weather conditions can fluctuate significantly, affecting attendance and overall experiences.

With a variety of events being rescheduled, participants are encouraged to check with event organizers for the latest information and new dates. As the weather improves over the weekend, local community members may look forward to a range of future activities in Warwick and its vicinity.
