PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Matt Childs scored on the last play of regulation and again on the first snap of overtime as Brown stormed back from 14 points down in the fourth quarter and beat Cornell 38-31 in a Saturday thriller at Brown Stadium in Providence.

Cornell led 31-17 heading into the final quarter after quarterback Garrett Bass-Sulpizio ran for three touchdowns in the second quarter and later threw a 12-yard scoring pass to Brendan Lee. Brown then scored the game’s final 21 points.

James Murphy hit freshman Saphir Miller on a 50-yard catch-and-run early in the fourth to make it 31-24. The Bears then went 84 yards in 18 plays, and Murphy found Childs for a 9-yard touchdown with no time left to tie it at 31.

Cornell won the coin toss and chose to play defense first in overtime. Childs took the first handoff 25 yards for the go-ahead score, and the Big Red came up short on a fourth-and-8 on their answering possession to end it.

Childs, a junior, finished with 72 rushing yards, 85 receiving yards and three touchdowns, his sixth straight game over 100 all-purpose yards. Murphy completed 31 of 50 passes for 325 yards and three scores. Brown piled up a season-high 463 yards while the defense allowed Cornell just four conversions in 15 tries on third and fourth down. Camryn Williams-Dalton picked off his fourth pass of the year to set up a touchdown.

Both teams are now 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Ivy League. Brown remains unbeaten at home this season. Cornell visits Princeton next Saturday, Oct. 31.
