PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence College volleyball kept answering UConn’s rallies on Sunday evening, and the Friars took a 3-1 Big East win at Alumni Hall by scoring the final points in two tight sets.

The opener went past 25. UConn held a 26-25 lead before Providence ran off three straight points to take it 28-26. The Huskies evened the match by winning the second set 25-18, helped by a pair of aces in a row from Maja Daca.

Providence built a 12-6 lead in the third and was up 20-15 when UConn crept within 20-19. The Friars steadied and won the set 25-22. The fourth looked like it would go the other way. Trailing 20-15, the Huskies reeled off seven points in a row behind the serving of Isabella Sohl and led 23-21, but Providence won the last four points for a 25-23 finish.

The Friars hit .262 for the match to .183 for UConn, and they won the blocking battle 12-5. UConn did put up more kills, 56 to 49, and served 12 aces. Sydney Borowy paced the Huskies with 16 kills. The match drew 254 fans.

Efficiency made the difference late. Providence hit .342 in the third set and committed only two attack errors in that frame, then held on in the fourth despite managing just nine kills. Over four sets the Friars made 12 hitting errors, while UConn made 28.

Next up for the Huskies is a home weekend, with Villanova visiting on Oct. 30 followed by Georgetown a night later.
