MIAMI — Cooper Flagg made the play that saved the night for Dallas, then finished it off himself. The second-year star blocked a late Miami 3-point try and scored the clinching layup as the Mavericks won 113-109 on Monday at Kaseya Center.
With 31 seconds left and Dallas up by two, Andrew Wiggins rose from the corner for a shot that would have put the Heat in front. Flagg closed out in time to get a hand on it, then went to the rim over a crowd of defenders with 10 seconds remaining to put the game away.
Flagg ended with 29 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, five steals and three blocks, scoring 12 of his points in the fourth quarter. No teenager in league history had ever combined 25-plus points with double-digit assists and at least five steals and five boards in a single night, so the 19-year-old now owns that mark alone.
Dallas got help across the lineup. Washington, the veteran forward, contributed 20, Irving poured in 18 and Clayton, the young guard, added 15 more. PJ Washington, Kyrie Irving and Walter Clayton Jr. gave the Mavericks three scorers behind Flagg, and Dallas is now 2-2 with Oklahoma City visiting on Wednesday.
Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded his first triple-double in a Heat uniform with 29 points and 11 assists, and Davion Mitchell added 21. It was not enough. Miami went 14 of 25 at the free-throw line and is winless through four games for just the fifth time in franchise history and the first time since the 2008-09 season.
